Latourell Falls Hike

August 28th was a beautiful day. We would have gone camping that weekend but we had stuff to do on Friday. So we decided to go for a nice day hike. We had already hiked Beacon Rock so we thought we would try a hike on the Oregon side of the gorge. This one was AWESOME! It started out with a very cool water fall you can see right from the parking lot, then you hike in along the river and see a double waterfall that you can walk right up to.

(I don’t think I’ll wear that shirt again. I my arms look huge, maybe it’s from carrying Cody…)

Cody had a blast. He would step on every tree root on the trail and jump off it, calling them his “jumps”.  It was all good until we got to a little bridge that went over a stream. He held onto the railing and swung his feet out and ended up hanging by his arms over the stream. We were right there, and he wouldn’t have been hurt, but we didn’t even want him wet. So Casey and I acted kind of urgent and it all freaked him out. He hugged me and laid his head down on my shoulder for the next quarter of the hike. Eventually he was happy again.

After the waterfall you continue on the other side of the river until you get to the old scenic highway. You cross and continue around below the highway going under a very beautiful bridge. Then you come to the first waterfall again. This time we were below it. You can also go right up to the fall.

This was great hike for the family. It was about 3 miles. Not too long for the kids, but long enough to feel like a hike. It is so good to get the kids out and do something active. We really get to talk and spend good time together as a family. We decided we want to try to hike all the waterfalls on the old scenic highway.
So far:
  1. Bridal Veil
  2. Beacon Rock
  3. Latourell Falls
A lot more to go!
